As you may have noticed, I love to travel and jump at any chance I get to take a trip somewhere I haven’t been before, so when my girlfriend suggested a girls’ trip to Mexico over the Martin Luther King Day weekend, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity. Living in Texas, it’s a little crazy that I hadn’t been to Mexico before this occasion, but my previous attempt had fallen through. I had planned a cruise that was stopping in Cancun and Cozumel the summer before I started law school, but the trip was rerouted to Grand Cayman and Jamaica because of the Swine Flu scare. Well, that was five years ago, so it was about time I had a do-over!
Checking the forecast leading up to departure was agonizing because rain was predicted every day, and I was so worried the trip was going to be ruined! I’m happy to report that we only experienced rain for about 15 minutes on one day of the trip. I was so happy to soak up the sunshine and warmer temperatures and escape the unreasonable frigid, rainy weather in Texas! No sweaters or coats (I ditched those at the airport); just swimsuits and cover-ups the whole time. It was absolutely amazing and just what the doctor ordered.
I love beach vacations. There’s nothing more relaxing to me than lying out on the beach and reading a book while listening to the waves crash against the shore. The water was so beautiful, and I don’t think I will ever tire of that view. We spent the first couple of days unwinding and hanging around the resort. I also ate more than my fair share of everything in sight. The brunch at the Ritz-Carlton was delicious. They literally had everything you could imagine – from chilaquiles (so good!) to French toast. The cheese selection was also out of this world. I think I ate my weight in cheese while I was there. I certainly had enough nachos and quesadillas to last me a lifetime, but it was so worth it.
Lately, I’ve been fascinated with one-piece swimsuits. Don’t get me wrong – I love my bikinis, but I was getting bored and wanting to try something new. I think one-piece suits can be so flattering and sexy. Plus, they come in handy when you want to eat on vacation like me!
I searched for the perfect swimsuits for a couple of months before I left, and after a couple of disastrous purchases, I found these two awesome swimsuits! I absolutely love the mesh inserts in this black ASOS one-piece, and the crisscross design of this beautiful gray swimsuit from Saks is amazing! On top of loving a fabulous swimsuit, I also love a great price and dislike spending a lot of money on something that I won’t get that much wear out of, so I was thrilled to find pieces for $60 bucks or under!
Besides finding a couple of fun new swimsuits, I also found some really cute cover-ups to take on my trip with me. I definitely over-packed on because I didn’t wear half of what was in my suitcase, but my new cover-ups definitely made it into the rotation. I was so excited to wear them! The lacey material of both cover-ups appears delicate, but it held up quite well to my surprise.
When we weren’t exhausted from a day of boating, snorkeling, or jet skiing, we made it out to a couple of restaurants for dinner. I was glad I was able to wear this ASOS dress that I purchased in anticipation of the trip. I love the colorful snake print (and the sale price). It is the perfect beach getaway dress because it works just as well with flats as it would with a cute pair of stilettos or platforms.
I can’t wait to go back to Mexico in the future. I want to experience other areas, but it will be so hard not to just go back to Cancun since I had such an amazing experience!
