SHOP MY LOOK
Peplum is one of my favorite trends. It reminds me of the feminine silhouettes of the 40’s and 50’s, and I hope it sticks around for awhile to come (or at least until I tire of it). I love finding tasteful, classy ways to wear the style to work, so I snatched this top up quickly when I saw it. It was a little loose around the waist, but I purchased it anyway. Instead of tailoring, I added a black patent belt for more definition at the waistline and a super quick fix.
I love wearing black and white together, so I paired this top with a white pencil skirt, which is perfect for summertime! I think white can be kind of tricky to wear to work because it’s not a traditional workwear apparel color. However, as you might know, I’m not one to shy away from wearing colors or trends that you don’t typically see in the workplace, so I’m always looking for ways to incorporate things I love in my work wardrobe. As far as wearing white is concerned, I’ve found that if the pieces aren’t too casual or tight, white wears wonderfully in the office! This pencil skirt is right above the knee, and the fabric is thick, so I’m more than comfortable in it at work.
To keep the black and white combo from being boring, I paired the skirt and top with my black and white print heels. These shoes tie everything together in my opinion. The print might not be for everybody, but my motto is to wear what you love and feel good in, while always remaining elegant and sophisticated.
For accessories, I added my favorite J.Crew necklace. I wish this piece was still available because it’s gorgeous, and the photograph doesn’t do it justice at all. It’s sparkly without being over the top. Whenever I feel like splurging a bit on costume jewelry, I always shop a J.Crew sale. I count on their designs to always be unique and beautiful, and I even wore all J.Crew jewelry for my wedding. It’s that amazing.
My Kate Spade wallet that doubles as a clutch completed my black and white ensemble. I carry this in my work tote all the time since it’s so easy to whip out for after hours events.
I hope your week is off to a great start!
